The Eurovision Song Contest is a song competition which is shown on live television every year. The first contest was in 1956 and every year it seems to get bigger and bigger. It is now one of the longest-running television programmes in the world.
This Saturday over 100 million people will watch the final of this year’s contest. Twenty-seven countries will compete and only one will be the winner. The winner is selected by a voting system.
Since 1957, the UK has won the contest five times. However, recently the British entries have not gained many points. This year’s British entry is a band called Electro Velvet.
Everyone likes to try to predict the winner – my favourite this year is a song from Estonia.
