Be positive and have a longer life
There are many ways to try to lead a healthy life. Doing regular exercise and eating a balanced diet are of course very important. However, a new study has found that one of the best ways to remain healthy and to have a long life is to be cheerful and optimistic. Apparently, having a positive mental attitude is good for your heart.
Each year 175,000 people have a heart attack in the UK. That’s one person every three minutes. The study looked at 370 people over a period of 46 months. They found that unhappy, pessimistic people were twice as likely to die or to need surgery compared to happier, more optimistic people.
The study also showed that optimistic people were twice as likely to eat more fresh fruit and vegetables and to give up smoking.
