The game of rugby

Although football is probably is Britain’s favourite sport, the game of rugby is also very popular. The game has a long history and is named after a famous school where the game was first played many years ago. Rugby is quite different from football. For one thing, a football is round, whereas a rugby ball is oval, or egg shaped.

You play rugby by picking up the ball and running with it towards the opponent’s side. A goal is scored by kicking the ball over the bar, while in football the ball is kicked into the net.

Today is the first day of the 2015 rugby competition called the Six Nations. It is held every year and it involves six European teams: England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales. The first match is between England and Wales and will be played in Cardiff tonight.
