Despite the winter weather and low temperatures, many British people continue to do outdoor activities. Britain has mountains, rivers, lakes and forests and there are lots of ways to enjoy them. Sailing is a popular hobby and where there is a lake, there is usually a sailing club. Windsurfing, canoeing, fishing and bird watching are also popular.
Wherever you go in the countryside you will meet people walking their dogs or just enjoying the peace and quiet and the fresh air. In most areas there are marked footpaths to help walkers to plan their route and you can usually buy guide books which suggest walks in the local area. Most towns and villages also have a walking club where members meet on a particular day and do a guided walk together.
