Does online shopping make you lonely?

A study carried out by an insurance company has found that British people are feeling more lonely than in the past because of online shopping. The people in the survey said that shopping in their local community makes them feel more involved and less isolated. It gives you a chance to bump into a friend or talk to a fellow customer. Now that online shopping is becoming so popular, people don’t need to visit their local shops so often.

Researchers have warned that this trend is likely to get worse with the growth of smartphone technology. We can now shop, book tickets and find out what our friends are doing. However, we still need some human contact and if we don’t see enough people we can feel frustrated and disappointed. Despite the advantages of shopping online, 91% felt that it is important to support their local shops.
