The dangers of walking and texting

A new report has shown that hundreds of pedestrians are hit by cars every year because they are distracted by their phones as they cross the road. Nearly one third of them admit that they stepped out onto the road without looking because they were busy sending text messages or chatting to their friends.

The number of people who are injured while walking has increased dramatically in recent years. In addition, many car drivers say that they have had to swerve suddenly to avoid hitting a pedestrian who was not looking or not concentrating. The police are urging people to be more careful and to think about the dangers of texting and walking at the same time.
