Success for Sherlock Holmes

A British TV series called ‘Sherlock’ has won seven major television awards in America. The series, which is based on the famous detective stories written by the Scottish writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, has been a massive hit in Britain and 4 million people watched the latest series.

The awards, called Emmys, are given for excellence in all aspects of the television industry. The leading actors, who play Sherlock Holmes and Watson, are Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. The writer of the series also won an award.

The first Sherlock Holmes story was published in 1887 but the stories are still popular all over the world. If you are in London you can go to Baker Street and visit the Sherlock Holmes museum, which was the first museum in the world to be dedicated to a fictional character.
